Alleged GoFundMe Fraud

GoFundMe to Cover $5000 Stolen From Family by Fraudster

Hey, check out GoFundMe trying to make things right after a scammer used their platform to bilk a few grand out of donors!

As we recently reported, Krystal Gentley of New Hampshire was arrested earlier this month for allegedly running off with $5000 raised for a woman who died late last year in California.

We can’t help but wonder if the media coverage around this alleged theft is behind GoFundMe’s generosity, but hey whatever.

Via 7News Boston:

“GoFundMe is providing the family of Tabitha Fauteux with the money raised on her behalf,” a company spokesperson said in an email. “We want to make sure they receive the help they need during this distressing time.”

“Fraud is very rare on the GoFundMe platform, but when it does happen, we do everything we can to make sure that those affected get the help they need,” the spokesman added.

Remember those words, kids. At the end of the year, we’ll add up the grand total of all money scammed through GoFundMe that we’ve reported here. Hopefully the amount of money refunded to victims by GoFundMe will be the same number.
