Someone Please Tell Her Your Debts Die When You Do

Came across this gem today, and I’m sharing it with you:

“Five years ago my sister, my photo, my sister died in her sleep. She left behind some debt that we need to raise money for so we can help her to leave and take her journey with out the hurt and debt that was left behind. I would appreciate any help from friends and family to help donate money so I can get going on her debt that was left behind. Thank you to all caring people out there.”

Five years? Sweetie, that debt has long been written off by now.

It’s pretty common for scummy credit card companies to go after any surviving family members when a loved one dies but here’s how that works: if you didn’t co-sign for it, it isn’t your problem. Family members are NOT responsible for debt upon death. Now, there are some exceptions to that and if the decedent had any assets, selling those off to pay down debts will be handled in probate.

Seeing as the GoFundMe page is asking for $350k, we can only imagine what kind of debt this lady was racking up before she died. Of course, the fundraiser doesn’t tell us, so who knows.

You’ll note an update changes the story completely:
