Fake Cancer Patient Stole This Crowdfunding Plea From a Real Cancer Patient

Oh Lord, when does it end? Never. It never ends.

So, this one popped up on my radar today combing through one of the many GoFundMe campaign sharing groups I’m in for the sole purpose of hunting down these losers.

The first red flag is that the campaign photo is the same as the profile photo used by “Matt Steves” on Facebook. Who has just one picture of themselves? The second red flag is that Matt has just 30 friends. Even my cat has more friends than that.

Matt’s Youcaring plea starts like this:

Hello! Thank you for visiting my fundraiser. My name is Matt Steves , I’m 36 years-young, an American Red Cross volunteer, animal lover and health enthusiast. I love meeting new people, learning new things and enjoying all of the wondrous experiences life has to offer. Unfortunately, in June 2015, while on holiday in Italy  with my dad , I was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer with serious metastasis to my liver – I was 35. I had no prior symptoms or suspect health history, and had always followed a healthy and active lifestyle. In the blink of an eye, every aspect of my life was thrown upside down and I was suddenly cast in a desperate battle just to stay alive…

Matt sounds like a wonderful person! How terrible this happened to him. But wait.

If we Google that paragraph, we meet Daniel. Who the hell is Daniel, you ask? Good question. Daniel’s Youcaring plea is oddly similar to Matt’s. So similar, in fact, that it’s exactly the same:

Hello! Thank you for visiting my fundraiser. My name is Daniel, I’m 32 years-young, an American Red Cross volunteer, animal lover and health enthusiast. I love meeting new people, learning new things and enjoying all of the wondrous experiences life has to offer. Unfortunately, in May 2015, while on holiday in Malaysia with my Mom, I was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer with serious metastasis to my liver – I was 31. I had no prior symptoms or suspect health history, and had always followed a healthy and active lifestyle. In the blink of an eye, every aspect of my life was thrown upside down and I was suddenly cast in a desperate battle just to stay alive…

Daniel’s campaign was created in February, so it’s safe to say he wrote that bit first.

We’re about to report “Matt” to both Youcaring and Facebook, but wanted to share with you first. Because scammers.
