GoFundMe Donates $100,000 to Pulse Shooting Victims Fund, But Guess How Much They’re Making From It!

Pulse shooting

Apologizes for that clickbaity headline, it’s bad and I should feel bad.

Anyhoo, let’s talk about this donation. From the GoFundMe press release:

Today, GoFundMe donated $100,000 to the campaign supporting victims of the horrific shooting at the Pulse Night Club in Orlando, Florida. Started by Equality Florida, an LGBT advocacy organization, the campaign is the second largest and fastest growing in GoFundMe’s history, so far raising more than $2.1 million.

As yet, GoFundMe has not signaled any intention to waive its standard fees for this campaign. That means GoFundMe will take 5% from every single donation. CNN Money said the $100,000 donation from GoFundMe “essentially waived its transaction fee.”

That part was true when the campaign was at $2 million. As of the writing of this post, the campaign stands at $3,628,999 with a goal of $5 million.

5% of $3,628,999 is $181,449. If the campaign reaches its increased goal of $5 million, GoFundMe will walk away with $250,000.

Isn’t math fun! BTW, in the time it took us to write this, the Equality Florida campaign climbed to $3,631,425.
