“Please help raise money for my daughter Jessica (india) she was in a bad car accident last night and passed away,” reads the GoFundMe campaign in memory of Jessica Zamora, who died in a head-on collision early Christmas morning in San Jose, CA.
What the campaign description fails to mention is that Jessica — who had a warrant out for her arrest on a prior DUI case — was Snapchatting herself getting free drinks at a local bar just before the accident. Just after midnight, she crossed the center lane and crashed head-first into a 2004 Lexus containing a 14-year-old boy and his parents. The boy — Andrew Nguyen — died at the hospital.
Zamora’s aunt apologized to the Nguyen family, however blamed the bar for plying her with free booze. “They shouldn’t have been doing that if she was already drinking and drunk,” she told ABC7.
The GoFundMe campaign in Zamora’s name was started on December 11, meaning it was likely for another cause prior to the incident and later changed after her death. As of press time, it has raised $3639 of a $30000 goal.
In true Internet fashion, the pitchforks descended upon the disingenuous and tasteless campaign almost immediately, however the campaign organizer has since turned off comments.
Meanwhile, a YouCaring campaign started by a family friend of the teenage boy killed in the crash was abruptly closed to donations.
“Our family would like to thank you for your tremendous love and support during this difficult time,” an update reads. “The YouCare donation was intended to be private and not made public, so the family has asked that the donations be refunded. Please use the refunded money and donate to a charity of your choice in honor of Andrew Nguyen.”

A makeshift memorial has popped up at the crash site, at which Zamora’s friends have been leaving piles of empty beer bottles in her memory.
