Multiple Fake GoFundMe Campaigns Pop Up For London Teen Murdered By Classmate

Quamari Barnes

The Guardian reports that “a 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a boy of the same age was stabbed outside a north-west London school as his fellow students looked on.”

Quamari Barnes was waiting at a bus stop after school when he was attacked by a classmate, who threatened him at the bus stop and later chased him toward the school. Barnes was rushed by ambulance to a London hospital where he later died.

As his family, classmates, and friends grieve, they also have to contend with not one but several phony GoFundMe campaigns popping up after news of his death made his way across the country.

One in particular caught the attention of his godmother.

That campaign has since been removed, an archived copy can be found here.

We found three other campaigns for Quamari, all of which have been removed from GoFundMe or closed to donations. You can find those here, here, and here.

The official campaign for Barnes — started by his godmother — has raised £36,868 in eight days.

She writes:

Quamari was my Godson, and I have set up this account with the permission of his parents to support and assist them through this difficult time. They will be receiving all of the funds from this campaign.

We are asking for 20,000 to cover all funeral and burial expenses and other expenses they may incur.

Our family thanks everyone for their thoughts and prayers during this horrendous time.

We would appreciate any donations.

The boy accused of killing Barnes will begin his trial in May.
