New York Woman Accused of Stealing GoFundMe Cash Meant for Elderly Man’s Scooter

Here we are yet again informing you of a rare occurence on GoFundMe (according to GoFundMe, anyway).

24-year-old Jordan Fogg of Canandaigua, NY is accused of attempting to keep approximately $1000 raised to buy a new motorized scooter for James Fillipello. She was arrested and charged Tuesday with one count of fourth-degree grand larceny. Canandaigua Police Chief Stephen Hedworth said Fogg worked for the victim providing home health care and turned over just $100 of the $1200 raised (after fees) via the GoFundMe campaign she set up. Fillipello believed the small amount given to him was all that was raised.

Police opened their investigation after an employee with the Ontario County Office for the Aging contacted them expressing concerns.

Anyone who donated to the “Jimmy’s scooter” GoFundMe campaign from August 2017 to September 2017 is asked to contact Officer PJ Mastracy at 585-396-5035 or by email.

We were unable to find a cached copy of the campaign. After reminding everyone that donations are protected by the GoFundMe Guarantee and that fraud is a super rare occurrence on the platform for the bazillionth time as they are wont to do every time one of these stories breaks, they said they would work to get Jimmy the funds raised for him. Good job, guys.
