Utah Dad Starts GoFundMe Campaign to Cover $39.95 Hospital Charge

$39.95 baby gofundme

As a regular Reddit user (shameless plug for cricket-infested /r/gofraudme here), I absolutely hate when clickbait content farms comb the annals of sacred subreddits looking for items to slap on their half-assed listicles. But since this guy posted in /r/pics, I suppose it’s fair game what with /r/pics being pretty half-assed itself.

New dad Ryan Grassley posted a picture Monday of the itemized hospital statement he and his wife received after the birth of their son on September 4 showing a $39.95 charge for “skin to skin contact.”

Surely you’ve seen that story, but what you may have missed is dad’s GoFundMe campaign.

He writes:

On Sept 4th my son was born.  In the OR the nurse asked if we wanted to do skin to skin as soon as possible after he was born.  After the C-section  our baby was cleaned up and ready for skin to skin.

Later we both got a laugh about the itemized bill with a 39.35 charge for skin to skin time.

So I posted it on Reddit and it blew up.  To be clear I wasn’t complaining or trying to send people on a witch hunt for the hospital.  We had a very positive experience
during the birth of our son, and the hospital and staff were great throughout the entire process.

I posted the bill to Reddit because I thought it was funny. It has been interesting to see the shock from people around the world at the cost of medical expenses in the USA.

If I reach my goal of $39.35 I will use it to pay off this “ridiculous” fee.

Any money donated over the $39.35 will be put towards a vasectomy because I never want to go though these sleepless new baby nights again.

Despite the fact that the story is now all over the news and his original pic has received over two million views on Imgur, Ryan set the campaign goal at a modest $40. It stands at $15 as of press time.

Good luck, buddy, those healthcare costs are a bitch.
