GoFundMe for Louisiana Student Who Ran Red Light Drunk and Put Someone Else in the Hospital Fails to Mention She Was Drunk AF

Summer Stevens GoFundMe

So, earlier today the “Help summer get back on her feet” GoFundMe campaign was very much active, and it read:

Summer is a 19 year old student in baton rouge, studying ultra sonagraphy with a strong interest in medicine, she has a passion for art and music and her friends. On December 1st 2016 summer was in a life altering car accident and was rushed to the hospital where she stayed for 40 days, the first two she was an unidentified Jane Doe, all alone. impact from the crash made her heart unable to beat correctly, her lungs were filled with blood, the shock of impact caused her to have a stroke, which caused a blood clot in her brain debilitating her entire right arm, She suffered a stage 4 tear in her liver, kidney damage, fluid in her heart, after leaving the hospital summer is struggling more than ever. Dealing with PTSD and flashbacks, trouble writing (from the blood clot) trouble remembering and speaking coupled with extreme pain from the many surgeries she went through, she has a long 12 weeks of physical and emotional therapy ahead of her before she can work again.

On February 19th, in her weakened conditien physically and emotionally, summer was assaulted and beaten by her own father in an extremely traumatizing and painful ordeal. The photo of her black eye is the day after summer endured a beating from the man who is supposed to protect and love her. Now without a place to stay and no savings summer is reaching out for help throughout this process. No one should have to endure what this sweet and brilliant young lady has been througn. Please help relieve the stress on this beautiful girl so she can focus on healing.

WOW. Summer sounds like an amazing person, that’s so sad she got in a tragic car accident! Oh wait.

The campaign has since been taken down from GoFundMe. Perhaps that has a little something to do with this WBRZ report published at 11am yesterday:

A 19-year-old woman was charged after police say she drunkenly crashed into another vehicle near LSU’s campus in December.

Summer Nichole Stevens, 19, was charged with first-degree vehicular negligent injuring, first offense DWI, reckless operation and running a red light.

According to the arrest warrant, the crash happened around 11 p.m. on December 1 near the intersection of Stanford Avenue and Morning Glory Avenue. Investigators say Stevens was driving southbound on Stanford Avenue “in a reckless manner” and ran the posted red light. Stevens crashed into another vehicle, causing severe injuries to herself and another person.

Police say the victim’s tail bone was broken in three places.

The GoFundMe campaign organized by Clara Ruby Cadwallader on February 21, 2017 to benefit Summer raised just $205 of a $10,000 goal before it disappeared from GoFundMe sometime this afternoon. Thankfully we saved a copy here because y’all know how we do.

The warrant for Stevens’ arrest clearly states that she was in the hospital for an extended period of time, just as the GoFundMe to benefit her said. Where the two diverge, however, is how the GoFundMe calls it “a life altering car accident” whereas authorities say “Stevens was extremely intoxicated, had slurred speech, blood shot eyes and a strong odor of alcohol on her person” and went on to tell the folks at the hospital that she was wasted.

GoFundMe terms and conditions forbid “content or campaigns that are fraudulent, misleading, inaccurate, dishonest, impossible or imitating any other person or fundraising campaign (whether on the Platform or not)” — does Summer’s campaign fall under that? It’s a tiny bit misleading in that she is accused of being shit-faced drunk and running a red light, then subsequently putting someone else in the hospital along with herself which the campaign organizer described as “a life altering car accident.” Ya think?
